Window and Door Rebates in Ontario (2026): What Brantford Homeowners Can Claim

If you are replacing windows or doors in Brantford this year, there is one rebate that still applies to them: the Home Renovation Savings Program. It is worth knowing how it works before you sign a quote, because the order you do things in decides whether you qualify. The federal Greener Homes loan that a lot of older articles still mention is closed.

The Home Renovation Savings Program

The Home Renovation Savings Program is run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy with support from the Government of Ontario. For windows and doors it pays $100 per rough opening. A rough opening is the framed hole in the wall that the window or door sits in, so a new window in an existing opening counts as one.

To qualify, the upgrade has to cover at least three window rough openings, or one door, one skylight or one sliding door, and every product has to be an ENERGY STAR certified model. The program also requires a professional contractor for window work rather than a DIY install.

The catch: you need an energy assessment and a second upgrade

Windows and doors sit in the program’s “two or more upgrades” stream. That means three things have to happen, in this order:

  1. Book the first home energy assessment before any work starts. A registered energy advisor from an approved service organization visits and rates the house. The assessment costs $600, and the program pays that back as a $600 rebate once you finish.
  2. Complete at least two qualifying upgrades. Windows and doors count as one. The other can be insulation, air sealing or a heat pump water heater.
  3. Book the follow-up assessment with the same energy advisor once the work is in. The program says rebates arrive within 30 days by Interac e-Transfer or 60 days by cheque after that follow-up is submitted.

The step that trips people up is the first one. If the windows go in before the first assessment, there is no “before” rating to compare against, and the upgrade can’t be claimed.

Who is eligible

The program is for Ontario homeowners, not tenants, in single-detached, semi-detached, row and townhomes, or mobile homes on a permanent foundation. The home has to be connected to the Ontario electricity grid or be an Enbridge Gas customer. Most Brantford and Brant County homes meet that.

Can you stack it with other rebates?

Mostly no. The program says participants can’t stack it with other incentives from Enbridge Gas, Save on Energy or the Government of Ontario. Limited stacking with other funding sources is allowed, as long as the total rebates don’t exceed 50% of the cost. Check the program’s help and support page for how that applies to your situation.

What about the Canada Greener Homes Grant and Loan?

Both are closed to new applicants. The Greener Homes Grant ended its intake earlier, and the Canada Greener Homes Loan portal closed to new applications on October 2, 2025. If a quote or article promises either one for a 2026 project, treat it as out of date.

Is $100 an opening worth the process?

It depends on what else you are planning. If windows are the only job this year, the assessment requirement and the second upgrade make the rebate hard to reach on its own. If you were already planning to add attic insulation or air sealing, pairing the two projects makes sense: the assessment is refunded, both upgrades earn rebates, and the energy advisor’s report tells you where the house is actually losing heat.

Either way, the right windows and a proper installation are what make a room warmer. Most drafts we find come from failed seals and frames that have moved rather than from the glass itself. Our guide to how new windows improve comfort and energy efficiency covers what to look for.

Planning a rebate project in Brantford

If you want to use the program, book the energy assessment first, then get your quotes. When we quote, ask us for the ENERGY STAR model details of each window and door so your energy advisor can confirm they qualify. See our window replacement and entry door pages for what we install, or request a free in-home estimate.
